Looking for a cute looking dog; Sheepadoodle will certainly ring the bell in your heart. They are also known as Sheepapoo.

Sheepadoodle is a mix of two very popular breeds, old English Sheep Dog and Poodle. They are not pure bred so it is not registered by American Kennel Club (AKC) of USA.

In around 1960’s they were bred as a mixed dog breed for the USA military. But owing to their good looks, wittiness and the affectionate behavior towards kids and family, they became popular as designer Family dogs.

Unlike the problems that associate with breeding a mix, Sheepadoodle are healthy dogs.

Standard Sheepadoodle can grow to a height of 18 to 27 inches and weigh 65 to 85 pounds.

Mini Sheepadoodle can grow up to a weight of 35 to 55 pounds.

Micro Sheepadoodle when fully grown can weigh up to 35 pounds. Though small, they retain their friendly attitude and are quite affectionate. Read more about them here

Typical lifespan of a Sheepadoodle ranges from 12 to 15 years.

Sheepadoodle as Family Dog

Sheepadoodles are very calm, quite intelligent and playful dogs which resembles slightly like a teddy bear. They are quite loving and popular as a family dog. They come in black, white with opposite colour patches and rarely in grey color.

Sheepadoodle are Kids friendly and great for Families with kids. Unless you take the largest ones, they are good as apartment dogs. Provided you are able to satisfy their exercise needs with the regular walks.

They don’t bark much and doesn’t drool. As they are quite witty, it is easy to train them for stuff like potty training as well.

Sheepadoodles are hypoallergenic dogs that mean they shed very little. Hence they are good for folks who are allergic.

As they are highly intelligent, it is easy to train them.


Care required


Sheepadoodle are recommended to have high quality dog food that should be light in calorie as they might get over weight. Take the advise of the vet who can advise based on the age, size and build of the dog.


Though Sheepadoodle are hypoallergenic dogs and shed a little but you need to brush their coat 2 – 3 times a week. Care need to be taken for ear wax as well and it may be a good idea to trim down the hairs near the eye, specially if it covers them.

Old English Sheep Dog

Old English Sheep Dog is characterized and known for its large coat but doesn’t shed much. Also known as ‘Bobtail’ originated from England. They have a unique bear-like ‘gait’.

They were originally bred as a drover by the English farmers who used to drive cattle to the markets.


Poodle are very popular dogs famous for their wittiness and the curly coat. Historians believe Poodle originated in Germany. They come in different sizes. They are also highly trainable and shed very little.
